Greg Stine Wins Third USAG All-Around Title

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Senior Greg Stine won his third USA Gymnastics national all-around title, as the Air Force men's gymnastics team picked up a third-place finish at the USAG Collegiate Championships on Friday, March 28, in Springfield, Mass. The Falcons tallied a team total of 335.100 to finish third within the field of five "varsity level" teams during the first day of competition.
Stine posted a combined total of 86.800 to earn his third consecutive all-around title (he also earned the national honor as a sophomore and junior). His mark was a two-point advantage over the rest of the field. Sophomore Brennan Wolford earned his second USAG All-American certificate in the all-around, as he posted a career-best 80.250 to finish sixth.
Navy won the team competition with a score of 339.300, while William and Mary finished second with 338.450. Air Force's score of 335.100 was third, while host Springfield (326.200) and MIT (317.000) rounded out the field with respective fourth- and fifth-place finishes.
As a team, Air Force won the still rings. The Falcons posted a combined score of 57.250 to take first in that event. In addition, the squad set a new season-best mark on the pommel horse, tallying a combined mark of 53.600.
In addition to the team and all-around finals, the preliminary rounds of the USAG Championships were also contested this evening. The top eight gymnasts (with no more than two per institution) advance to the individual event finals, which will take place tomorrow (March 29). The Falcons qualified at least one gymnast in every event, while sending two to the finals in four.
Besides winning the all-around, Stine qualified for the event finals in four events. Stine picked up advancing scores on the floor exercise (15.000), still rings (15.600), parallel bars (14.150) and high bar (14.350).
Freshman William Eastman scored a 14.200 to advance in the floor exercise, while classmate Kipp Druecke improved his personal-best pommel horse score to 13.550 to advance in that event. Fellow freshman Aaron Zaiser also advanced to tomorrow's finals after tallying a 14.650 on the vault.
Junior Jacob Schonig tallied a 15.550 to move on to the finals of the still rings, while classmate Josiah Loeser earned a 14.100 to advance on the parallel bars. Senior Tyler Sickles advanced to the finals of the high bar after earning a preliminary mark of 13.500.
Action concludes at the USAG Championships tomorrow (March 29) with the individual event finals.
