Falcons Set to Compete in Pioneer Face-off Classic

The Air Force lacrosse team heads to Denver, Colo., this weekend, March 8-9, to take part in the annual Pioneer Face-off Classic. The Falcons will face a pair of Ivy League teams, playing Penn on Saturday and Brown on Sunday. Both games are slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. at Barton Lacrosse Stadium.
The Teams...
Air Force enters this weekend's contest with a 1-1 record.
Penn enters this weekend's contest with a 1-1 record.
Brown enters this weekend with a 1-1 record and will play Denver on Saturday.
The Coaches...
Air Force is coached by Fred Acee, in his 11th season with the Falcons. Acee holds a 348-215-1 career record (41st year) and a 36-96 mark at the Academy.
Penn is coached by Brian Voelker, in his sixth season at the helm of the Quakers' program. Voelker holds a 32-37 career record at Penn.
Brown is coached by Lars Tiffany, in his second season leading the Bears. Tiffany holds a 26-21 career record (fourth year) and an 8-8 mark at Brown.
Series Records...
Air Force and Penn have met once, with the Quakers taking a 6-3 victory in 2005. Meanwhile, this marks the third meeting between Air Force and Brown, with the Bears winning both contests in 2001 and 2002.
Scouting the Falcons...
Air Force (1-1) suffered its first loss of the season over the weekend, falling 12-4 to service academy rival Army.
Senior David Rose is the Falcons' leading scorer with six goals on the season, while five players have two points each.
Scouting the Quakers...
Penn (1-1), receiving votes in the latest USILA coaches poll, is coming off 7-6 victory over Villanova. Both of the Quakers' games this season have been decided by one goal.
Leading the Penn offense is Craig Andrzejewski with six points (1g, 5a), while Al Kohart has five goals in the first two games.
Scouting the Bears...
Brown (1-1), receiving votes in the latest USILA coaches poll, dropped a 7-6 decision to Hofstra in its last contest, and will face Denver on Saturday before playing Air Force this weekend.
Thomas Muldoon leads the Brown offense with six goals and three assists, while Andrew Feinberg ranks second on the team with three goals and an assist. Goalkeeper Jordan Burke has a 5.61 GAA and is averaging 13 saves a game.
GWLL Player of the Week...
Senior David Rose was named the Great Western Lacrosse League Player of the Week on March 5, following his performance in the Falcons' first two games of the season. Rose scored on all five of his shots, including the gamewinner, in Air Force's 8-7 overtime win versus Providence. He also added a goal in the Falcons' loss to Army.
Keep the Streak Alive...
Junior Griffin Nevitt will look to keep his scoring streak alive this weekend, as the midfielder has scored at least one goal or assist in 27 consecutive games. Nevitt, who has 45 goals and 26 assists in his career, has scored in 29 of 30 games in his first two-plus seasons.
A Career Day For Rosie...
Senior David Rose was instrumental in the Falcons' win over Providence last week, scoring five of the team's eight goals, including the gamewinner in overtime. Rose, who had scored just two goals in his career prior to the contest, took just five shots in the game, scoring on all of them.
Up Next...
The Falcons face a nationally ranked opponent next weekend, March 16, when they head to College Park, Md., to take on Maryland. Game time is slated for 1:00 p.m. (ET).
