Air Force Quartet Heads to NCAA Regional Meet

Four members of the Air Force women's gymnastics team will travel to Minneapolis, Minn., for the 2008 NCAA North Central Regional Championships on Saturday, April 12. Michelle Denise, Brittany Dutton and Abigail Rogers will compete in the all-around, while Kayla Kincade will participate on the balance beam.

SCHEDULING 101
Action will begin at 6 p.m. (CST) in Minnesota's Sports Pavilion. Competing as individuals, the Falcons will rotate with one of the six competing teams. Abigail Rogers Michelle Denise will rotate with Iowa and begin with specialist Kayla Kincade on the balance beam. Abigail Rogers will compete alongside No. 11 Arkansas and open on the uneven bars. Brittany Dutton, who will rotate with Southern Utah, will open the meet on a bye before moving to the floor exercise.
WHO'S THERE?
Six teams are scheduled to compete at the North Central Regional, including second-ranked Utah. Other competing programs are No. 11 Arkansas, No. 14 Arizona, No. 22 Iowa, No. 27 Southern Utah and No. 28 Minnesota. Individual athletes from Utah State and Air Force round out the regional meet.
MISS ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD
Junior Abigail Rogers became the first Air Force gymnast to be named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Year. Rogers, who was awarded this distinction at the conclusion of the conference championship meet, shared the annual award with Michelle Kulovitz of UC-Davis.
ALL-CONFERENCE ACCOLADES
Five members of the Falcons' squad earned all-conference honors based on their regional qualifying averages. Abigail Rogers earned all-MPSF honors for the all-around, balance beam and floor exercise. Michelle Denise claimed a trio of accolades as well, earning hers in the all-around, uneven bars and floor exercise. Brittany Dutton earned a nod in the all-around and balance beam, while Kelly Lewis (vault) and Kayla Kincade (balance beam) rounded out the Falcons' honorees.
SCORING LIKE ITS 2004
Air Force tallied its best combined score of in over four years to finish fourth at the MPSF Championships on March 28. The Falcons' score of 192.275 is the best team score for any gymnast on the roster. That mark is the best team score since March 20, 2004, when Air Force compiled a score of 192.525 at the conference championships.
FALCONS SOAR AT MPSF MEET
The Falcons accounted for five top-five finishes at the MPSF Championships. Abigail Rogers earned Air Force's top finishes, as she placed third on the floor exercise (9.800) and in the all-around (38.650). Michelle Denise finished fourth in the all-around (38.575) and fifth on the uneven bars (9.775), while Kayla Kincade finished fifth on the balance beam with a score of 9.750.
