Falcons Finish Fourth in USAG Qualifying Round

SHREVEPORT, La. - The Air Force women's gymnastics team wrapped up team competition this afternoon (April 17) at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships in Shreveport, La. The Falcons scored a total of 188.600 to finish fourth in the first qualifying session, while two members of the team qualified for the individual event finals.
A pair of Falcons advanced to Saturday's individual event finals, backed by their top-five finishes. Sophomores Kayla Kincade and Michelle Denise posted advancing scores in the balance beam and uneven bars, respectively.
Kincade tied for third on the balance beam with a 9.700 - her second-highest tally of her career. Denise scored a 9.625 to tie for fourth on the uneven bars.
Freshman Brittany Dutton, who paced the Air Force all-arounders with a sixth-place score of 37.725, just missed a spot in the finals of the floor exercise after tying for sixth with a career-best 9.725.
Dutton was one of three Falcons to earn top-10 finishes during the qualifying session. Senior Kelly Lewis finished eighth in the vault with a score of 9.625, while junior Abigail Rogers placed 10th (9.500). Rogers also picked up a ninth-place finish on the balance beam, behind a score of 9.600.
Towson won the opening session with a score of 193.200, while Cornell finished second with a total of 192.150. Temple (188.850) and Air Force (188.600) rounded out the opening round field of competition. As the top two teams from the first session, Towson and Cornell will compete in the team finals tomorrow night.
Kincade and Denise will next compete in the individual event finals of the USAG Championships on Saturday, April 19, at 1:30 p.m., in Centenary's Gold Dome.
