Falcons Finish Fourth at Pittsburgh Invitational

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Air Force women's gymnastics team collected five top-10 finishes, en route to a fourth-place finish at the Pittsburgh Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 17, in Pittsburgh, Pa. Senior Abbey Rogers, competing in her hometown, paced the Falcons on two events, while freshmen accounted for the team's top score in the other two events.

Rogers increased her season-high totals in three events, while leading the team on the uneven bars and balance beam. The senior tied for seventh on the bars with a score of 9.625, while scoring a 9.725 on the beam to also tie for seventh on that event. Rogers' balance beam score is just .050 shy of her career high. In addition to tying for 10th on the vault (9.650), she tied for third in the all-around with a total of 37.100.

Freshman Jenna Dudley, who matched Rogers' all-around score of 37.100, posted the best individual event finish of the night. Dudley tied for third on the floor exercise with a career-best score of 9.750, increasing her score by .225. The rookie, in her first road competition of the year, also improved her personal-best score on the uneven bars at 9.550.

With a mark of 9.675, classmate Samantha Jones led the team with a ninth-place finish on the vault, while increasing her score on that event by nearly half a point. Jones also upped her mark on the uneven bars, with a judges' total of 9.450.

Several other Falcons also improved their personal-best scores at the Pitt Invitational. Freshman Colby Chaput improved her career mark on the balance beam, as she tallied a 9.125 on the apparatus, while junior Aftan Boudreaux increased her personal-high on the floor exercise at 9.550. Sophomore Lisa Wong scored a 9.550 on the vault to better her career mark on that event.

Air Force posted a team total of 186.900 to finish fourth in the four-team invitational. New Hampshire won the meet with a score of 194.025, edging host Pitt by one point (193.025). Bridgeport tallied a score of 188.475 to take third. However, the Falcons increased their team scores on the vault (47.725) and uneven bars (46.925).

Air Force remains on the road for its next meet, traveling to Davis, Calif., on Friday, Jan. 24. The Falcons will face off against Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe, UC-Davis, at 7 p.m. (PST).
