USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force men's and women's gymnastics team will host its annual Blue-Silver Meet on Saturday, Dec. 5. The meet, which will feature the men and women competing together at the Academy's Cadet West Gym, is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
The men's team, which is led by fifth-year coach Kip Simons and senior co-captains Garrett Canter and Brennan Wolford, features a strong returning lineup that includes three returning USAG All-Americans and four participants from last year's NCAA Championships. In addition, the Falcons return a pair of Academy record holders in sophomores Jacob Houder (pommel horse) and Devin Menefee (vault).
The women's program is guided by fourth-year head coach Doug Day and senior captain Aftan Boudreaux, who was a 2009 USAG All-American on the uneven bars. The Falcons also return USAG All-Americans in senior Michelle Denise (floor exercise, all-around), sophomore Jenna Dudley (all-around) and junior Brittany Dutton (all-around).
The Blue-Silver Meet will also be the fans first look at the newest members of the Air Force program. The men added seven freshmen, while the women have three first-year gymnasts on their roster.
The men's team officially opens the season at home on Saturday, Jan. 16, as they host the annual Rocky Mountain Open at 6 p.m. The women begin the season on Friday, Jan. 8, at the Salbasgeon Suites Invitational in Corvallis, Ore., against Alaska-Anchorage, Illinois and host Oregon State. The women open their home schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 27, with the second of four regular season competitions against Alaska-Anchorage.
