BALTIMORE, Md. - Air Force sophomore lacrosse player Dayton Gilbreath has been named to the Inside Lacrosse/Face-Off Yearbook 2010 Division I Preseason All-America Team. Gilbreath was named an honorable mention selection on this year's team.
Gilbreath, a defender from Bainbridge Island, Wash., earns the first preseason All-America honors of his career. The Great Western Lacrosse League Newcomer of the Year and a first-team all-conference selection on defense in 2009, Gilbreath earned his spot in Air Force's starting lineup during his rookie campaign as the Falcons' top cover guy. In addition to helping shut down the opponents' top scorers, Gilbreath finished the season ranked third on the team in caused turnovers (13) and also scored two points (1g, 1a), including the game-winning goal versus Quinnipiac.
Gilbreath was also the Falcons' lone representative on the 2010 preseason All-ECAC squad, also announced by Inside Lacrosse. The all-conference team, voted on by the league's eight head coaches, appears in the 2010 Face-Off Yearbook, along with the preseason rankings for the ECAC Lacrosse League.
Air Force is projected to finish sixth in its first season as a member of the restructured league. Loyola was picked by the ECAC coaches to win the conference, followed in the poll by former GWLL members Ohio State and Denver in second and third place, respectively. Returning ECAC squads Fairfield and Hobart were chosen to finish fourth and fifth, respectively, in the league, while Bellarmine (seventh) and Quinnipiac (eighth) round out the preseason rankings.
The Falcons will kick off the 2010 season on Feb. 27, when they host St. John's in a non-conference match-up.
