The Air Force men's tennis team picked up its second win of the season Saturday, defeating Northern Colorado, 6-1, at the Academy. The Falcons improved to 2-9 this season, while the Bears fell to 1-9.
Air Force won the doubles point with easy wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions. Junior Brett Rodgers and sophomore Taylor Soster downed Jordan Boecker and Clay Mundall, 8-2, at No. 2, while junior Mike Gies and sophomore Johnny Buckingham won 8-1 at No. 3 over Andre Lepine and Andy Green. The Bears' No. 1 team of Adam Perez and Calix Van Lier defeated AFA junior Austin Francis and freshman Cody Hall, 8-5.
The Falcons won five of the six singles matches, winning the Nos. 2-6 matches in straight sets. Hall had his most dominating performance of the season, defeating Perez, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, followed by Rodgers taking a 6-2, 6-1 decision from Boecker.
Buckingham was off the court next and clinched the team match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Mundell. Soster (No. 4) and sophomore Alex Beaussart (No. 6) also won in straight sets for Air Force.
Van Lier produced the lone singles win for UNC, defeating Francis, 5-7, 6-3, (10-6) at the No. 1 spot.
Air Force returns to action on Thursday, March 5 when it hosts Xavier at 2 p.m.
