USAFA, Colo. - Air Force senior defenseman Greg Flynn is a finalist for the NCAA Frozen Four Skills Competition to be held on April 10 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The East vs. West competition will highlight the "Friday Night at the Frozen Four", which also includes the presentation of the Hobey Baker and Hockey Humanitarian Awards and the announcement of the American Hockey Coaches Association All-American teams.
Flynn, from Lino Lakes, Minn., has been the nation's top scoring defenseman for the majority of the season. As of Feb. 5, he was second in the nation with 1.00 points per game (5-21-26 in 26 games). He also ranked 14th in the nation in assists per game by all players. Flynn was the top scoring defenseman in the Atlantic Hockey Association and also ranked eighth in points per game and third in assists per game among all players.
The NCAA announced that the fan voting for the team is now open at www.NCAA.com and will continue through February 18. Fans will be able to select six position players and two goalies for each gender of the East team and each gender of the West team. The original list of 140 players was trimmed to 68 by the selection committee. Fans can vote for their favorites among the 68 players, which are vying for the 16 spots on each team. The selection committee will take all voting into consideration prior to making its announcement of the final rosters by the end of February.
Air Force has had a participant in each of the last two skills competitions as Andrew Ramsey competed in 2007 in St. Louis and Eric Ehn was selected in 2008. Ehn was named the West Team's Top Performer at the Skills Competition at the Frozen Four in Denver last season. Air Force is one of just two schools in the nation to have a men's competitor each of the last two years, joining Clarkson and Miami. Tickets go on sale February 23 and can be purchased by visiting the Verizon Center box office, calling Ticketmaster at 202/397-SEAT, or by logging on to www.ticketmaster.com. --30--
