Air Force Pair Set for NCAA Regional Meet

Action continues this weekend for two members of the Air Force women's gymnastics team, as senior Abbey Rogers and freshman Jenna Dudley travel to Iowa City, Iowa, for the NCAA North Central Regional Championships on Saturday, April 4. The regional meet features six teams, five all-around competitors and four individual event specialists.
Meet Notes 12 - at NCAA North Central Regional Championships 
WHO'S WHO
Six teams, including a pair of top-10 squads, will be competing at the NCAA North Central Regional Championships, as well as nine individual gymnasts. No. 6 Florida and No. 7 UCLA highlight the field that includes No. 18 Minnesota, No. 20 Denver, No. 23 Iowa State and host, No. 28 Iowa. Individually, there will be five all-around competitors and four event specialists.
ROUND AND ROUND WE GO
Abbey Rogers will rotate with UCLA, while Jenna Dudley will compete with Florida. The Bruins (and Rogers) will begin on the uneven bars and continue with the balance beam, bye, floor exercise and vault, before ending on a bye. Dudley and the Gators open with a bye, before moving on to the floor exercise, vault, bye, uneven bars and balance beam.
DUO SELECTED TO REGIONAL MEET
Jenna Dudley (38.290 RQS) and Abbey Rogers (38.225 RQS) were selected to the regional meet, as the top two "seeds" in the individual all-around. They were two of just three individuals from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation to earn a regional berth, joining Alaska-Anchorage's Leah Wilson, who is participating in the West Region all-around.
ROGERS REPEATS AS LEAGUE'S TOP GYMNAST
For the second straight year, senior Abbey Rogers was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Co-Gymnast of the Year. Rogers, the only Air Force gymnast to ever claim the league's top honor, shared the 2009 award with Andi Dolinsky of UC-Davis. She is a three-time MPSF Gymnast of the Week and accounted for 13 first-place finishes during the regular season.
ALL-CONFERENCE ACCOLADES
Abbey Rogers, Jenna Dudley and Brittany Dutton claimed nine combined all-conference honors from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Rogers was named to the all-MPSF teams for the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and all-around, while Dudley was tabbed on the floor uneven bars, balance beam, floor exercise and all-around. Dutton earned an all-MPSF nod in the all-around.
ROGERS CLAIMS THREE CONFERENCE TITLES
Abbey Rogers won three conference titles at the MPSF Championships on March 20. The senior became the program's first-ever conference champion, as she won the balance beam, floor exercise and all-around. Rogers tallied a career-high 9.850 on the balance beam and nearly matched her personal highs on the floor exercise (9.850) and all-around (38.900).
COLLECTING HARDWARE
In addition to Abbey Rogers' three conference titles, several other members received hardware from the conference at the championship meet. Junior Kayla Kincade shattered her personal-best total on the balance beam to finish second with a score of 9.825, providing Air Force a one-two punch on the podium. Classmate Aftan Boudreaux tied for second on the uneven bars with a score of 9.725, while freshman Katie Shetley tallied a career-high score of 9.776 to place third on the vault.
SO CLOSE
Highlighted by a season-best score of 48.050 on the balance beam, Air Force tallied its best team score of the year at 191.050 to finish fourth. It was a tight race for the team title, as just 1.775 points separated the first- and fourth-place teams.
HOME SWEET HOME
Air Force finished the 2009 regular season with a 4-1 record at home and a 4-4 overall record. It is the best home record for the Falcons in several years.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
Air Force will travel to New Haven, Conn., for the USA Gymnastics Collegiate Championships on April 9-11.
