Abbey Rogers Claims Second Consecutive MVP Award

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Senior Abbey Rogers earned her second consecutive MVP award, as the Air Force women's gymnastics team wrapped up the 2009 season with its annual awards banquet on Saturday, May 2, at the Academy. Rogers, who became just the third member of the program to earn MVP honors in multiple years, was one of five Falcons to receive accolades from head coach Doug Day.
Rogers capped an amazing collegiate career with her second straight MPSF Gymnast of the Year award and three conference titles. The senior, who earned an invitation to the NCAA Regional Championships, paced the Falcons with four all-conference selections. She posted the squad's highest total of the year on every event, while collecting three MPSF Gymnast of the Week awards and 16 first-place finishes. The native of Pittsburgh, Pa., who upped her career-best scores in three of the four individual events, as well as the all-around, also received numerous academic awards. Rogers earned academic all-conference honors, a place on the USAG All-Academic Team and a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
The senior joins former Falcons Michelle Roxburgh (1995-96-97) and Jessa Leigl (2004-05) as the program's only multi-year MVP selections.
After a stellar first season, Jenna Dudley earned the Falcons' Most Outstanding Freshman Award, as well as the Most Consistent Award. Dudley, who was selected to the NCAA Regional Championships, earned USAG All-America honors in the all-around. A four-time all-conference selection, Dudley competed in every event at every meet, becoming one of the team's top all-arounders. With scores rarely dipping below 9.400, Dudley could always be counted on to contribute to the team score. In addition to tying for the team lead on the uneven bars, Dudley was ranked among the top-three in all events.
Junior Aftan Boudreaux, the only Air Force gymnast to advance to the USAG event finals, was named the program's Most Improved Gymnast. It is the second straight season that she has won that award, as she rebounded from a freshman-year injury to become a dominant force in the Falcons' lineup. Boudreaux earned USAG All-America accolades on the uneven bars, in addition to finishing as the runner-up in that event at the MPSF Championships and recording the team's second-highest score. She also became a permanent fixture in the floor exercise rotation this season, collecting the Falcons' third-highest score
Freshman Samantha Jones was awarded the Hardest Worker honor. Jones competed in every meet, including five competitions as an all-around competitor. Jones became a strong component of the vault lineup, as well as an everyday competitor on the uneven bars and floor exercise. She tallied some of the team's top scores, including the second-highest vault tally of the season.
Sophomore Lisa Wong earned the inaugural Warrior Award for her "never say quit" attitude. No matter the situation, Wong was ready to compete and step into whatever role was required. She competed in every meet, including six as an all-around performer. She upped her personal-best scores on three of the four individual events, as well as in the all-around.
