DETROIT, Mich. - The Air Force boxing team went 3-3 at the Detroit Athletic Club's annual Service Academy Classic on Friday, Oct. 29, in Detroit, Mich. Sophomore Drew Pineda, junior Rainer Caparas and sophomore Glenn Miltenberg recorded wins for the Falcons, as Air Force, Army and Navy all posted matching 3-3 marks. For his victory at 120 pounds, Pineda was named the program's Boxer of the Week.
Pineda defeated Navy's Ceon Harris by decision in a 120-pound bout, while Caparas picked up a decision over Navy's Logan Hershman at 125 pounds. Miltenberg also defeated a Navy boxer, when the referee stopped his bout with Noah Winetraub in the second round.
Junior Dan Starr lost a 140-pound decision to Army's Langston Clark, while classmate Nick Cataldo fell to Navy's Chris Bertucci by decision. Senior Reggie Howard's 185-pound bout against Mikus Igaunius of Army was stopped by the referee in the second round.
"It was a really spirited effort," head coach Eddie Weichers. "All three service academies went 3-3, so no team had a clear edge. As always, it was a real classy event."
Air Force travels to West Point, N.Y., to face Army in the annual dual meet showdown on Friday, Nov. 5.
