USAFA, Colo. - Air Force freshman goaltender Jason Torf was named the Atlantic Hockey Association Rookie of the Month for November, as announced today by the league office.
Torf posted a 3-1-1 record in the month of November and his only loss was to 12th-ranked Denver. In five games, he posted a 2.37 goals-against average and a .933 saves percentage. Of the 12 goals he allowed, just six were even-strength. In his first start of the month, he led Air Force to a 4-3 win over third-ranked Yale while making a then-career-high 34 saves. He was named the AHA Rookie of the Week, Nov. 15, for his performance in that game. In his next start, he allowed just one goal in a 1-1 tie at Canisius, currently in first place in the league. The Hermosa Beach, Calif., native helped lead Air Force to a win at Niagara while making 30 saves and shutting out the Purple Eagles in the first two periods. On Nov. 26, he helped lead Air Force to its first ever win at the Denver Cup, snapping a 14-game losing streak in the tournament. He made a then-career-high 36 saves in a 2-1 win over Clarkson. The next night, he set a new career high with 39 saves in a 3-1 loss to 12th-ranked Denver in the champion¬ship game. In two games in the tournament, he made 75 saves, more than any other goalie in the tournament. In all games this season, among goalies who have played more than half of their team's minutes in the net, he ranks sixth in the nation in GAA and saves percentage by a freshman.
Air Force, 5-7-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the AHA, hosts Holy Cross for a two-game series, Friday-Saturday, Dec. 3-4, at the Cadet Ice Arena.
