Brown Earns Falcons' Top Finish at Winter Cup Challenge

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Highlighted by an eighth-place finish on the vault, freshman Tory Brown led the three members of the Air Force men's gymnastics team during the preliminary round of competition at the 2010 Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas, Nev., on Thursday, Feb. 4. The vault proved to be the strongest event for the Falcons, who placed two within the top 13.
Brown improved his personal-best score on the vault by nearly one point, garnering a score of 15.600 to place eighth. Brown was not alone among the event leaders, as sophomore Joel Uptmor nabbed a 15.400 on the event to finish 13th.
In addition to his eighth-place finish on the vault, Brown also competed on the parallel bars (12.100, 25th), high bar (12.600, 26th) and floor exercise (11.500, 35th).
Uptmor nearly finished within the top half of the field on the still rings and floor exercise. The sophomore finished 22nd on the still rings (12.400) and 23rd on the floor exercise (13.150). Uptmor also scored a 12.050 on the high bar to finish 32nd.
Junior Nash Mills competed in five events at the qualifying meet for the U.S. national team. Mills' best finish of the night came on the still rings, as he finished 26th with a score of 11.950. His highest score of the night, like his teammates, came on the vault, as he posted a score of 14.450 to finish 28th. He also competed on the floor exercise (12.150, 31st), parallel bars (11.800, 27th) and high bar (11.000, 37th).
