Air Force Downs Service Academy Rival Army

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Collecting four event titles, the No. 12 Air Force men's gymnastics team defeated service academy rival No. 15 Army by a 340.400-330.200 margin on Friday, March 12, in West Point, N.Y. Setting team records on the pommel horse and high bar, the Falcons bettered the Black Knights on every event, en route to the 10-point overall victory.
Junior Nash Mills paced the Falcons with a share of two event titles and the top all-around score. Mills placed first on the vault with a score of 15.600, while tying for the top spot on the high bar with sophomore Joel Uptmor and senior Garrett Canter. The winning high bar score of 14.150 was a career-best tally for both Uptmor and Canter, while just .200 off of Mills' personal-best score.
Backed by a second-place finish on the still rings (14.250) and a career-best score of 13.900 on the pommel horse, Mills won the all-around title with a score of 84.350.
In addition to his share of the high bar title, Uptmor placed first on the floor exercise with a 14.550. Classmate Devin Menefee scored a 14.850 to easily win his fourth still rings title in as many meets.
Freshman Travis Langham was second to Uptmor on the floor exercise (14.500) and tied for third on the still rings with a score of 14.050. His score on the floor exercise, as well as on the high bar (14.050, fourth) were career-best marks. Air Force took the top three spots on the floor exercise, as junior Dan Klimkowski placed third with a score of 14.300.
Sophomore Chase Nobles, posted the second-highest score in Academy history (just shy of the program record that he set last Sunday), tallying a 14.550 to place second on the pommel horse. Junior Aaron Zaiser picked up top-three finishes on the parallel bars (13.350, second) and vault (15.100, third), while freshman Alex Jessop made his collegiate debut with a third-place score of 13.300 on the parallel bars.
Air Force set new program marks on two events, as it tallied a score of 55.950 on the pommel horse and a mark of 56.500 on the high bar.
The Falcons remain on the East Coast this weekend, as they travel to Springfield, Mass., on Sunday, March 14, for a tri-meet with Springfield College and William and Mary.
