Air Force Heads to MPSF Championships

The Air Force women's gymnastics team begins post-season action on Saturday, March 27, when it travels to Seattle, Wash., for the 2010 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships. The league championship meet, which features Air Force, Alaska-Anchorage, Seattle-Pacific and UC Davis, is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. (PST).
LET'S MEET THE OPPONENTS
UC Davis currently leads the league with a regional qualifying score of 193.370, while Alaska-Anchorage and Air Force are ranked second (189.315 RQS) and third (189.085 RQS), respectively. Seattle-Pacific rounds out the field with a fourth-place RQS of 188.905. The Aggies lead the conference team standings in every individual event, while their gymnasts also post the top individual RQS marks.

League-leading UC Davis has taken eight of the 11 MPSF Gymnast of the Week awards. Of the three weekly awards the Aggies' haven't earned, Jenna Dudley has claimed two.
FALCONS SHINE IN HOME FINALE
Backed by 12 career-best scores and an additional pair of season-best marks, the Falcons posted a combined score of 193.300 - its highest team total since 2004 - on March 22. In addition to the individual season-high scores, Air Force tallied season-best team marks in three of the four event scores. The 193.300 is just 2.375 off of the Academy record which was set in 2004.
CLOSING THE GAP
With its season-best team score, Air Force dropped a narrow 195.700-193.300 decision to No. 20 Denver on March 22 at the Academy. It marks the second time in as many dual meets against the Pioneers that the point differential has been less than 2.5 points.
MORE DID YOU KNOW?
The Falcons have crossed the 190-point mark in two of their last four meets and just missed that mark by .025 in a third.
IN THE RUNNING...
Brittany Dutton and Michelle Denise tied for second on the floor exercise against the Pioneers, while Aftan Boudreaux tied for the runner-up spot on the uneven bars. All three gymnasts tallied matching scores of 9.750 on their respective events. Denise's score on the floor exercise was a personal best, while Boudreaux set a season-high score.
ANOTHER CAREER-BEST NIGHT
Jenna Dudley tallied career-best scores on the vault (9.800), balance beam (9.750) and all-around (38.850) in the regular season finale on March 22. In addition, Britany Calley accounted for a trio of personal-best scores on floor exercise (9.725), uneven bars (9.600) and all-around (38.600).
MORE HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE DENVER MEET
As a team, the Falcons crossed the 48-point mark in all four events on March 22, highlighted by matching marks of 48.600 on the balance beam and floor exercise. Air Force didn't have to count a single score lower than 9.500 on any event.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
The NCAA will release its field of competitors for the 2010 NCAA Regional Championships within the next week. The regional meet is scheduled for Saturday, April 10, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
