Falcons Wrap Up Action at NCAA National Qualifier

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Air Force men's gymnastics team concluded competition at the national qualifier for the 2010 NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships on Thursday, April 15, at West Point, N.Y. Eight members of the team competed at Army's Christl Arena during the second of two preliminary sessions that determined the finalists for the team and individual event finals.
Junior Nash Mills finished 10th in the all-around with a combined score of 63.950. Contributing to his score were marks on the vault pommel horse (10.200, 42nd), still rings (14.000, 24th), vault (15.500, 23rd), parallel bars (11.650, 37th) and high bar (12.600, 38th). The junior did not compete on the final event, the floor exercise, after injuring his heel during the high bar.
Joel Uptmor posted the Falcons' highest finish of the night, as he placed 22nd on the vault with a score of 15.550. The sophomore also tallied a 31st-place mark of 13.300 on the high bar and a 34th-place score of 13.550 on the still rings. Also competing in multiple events, sophomore Devin Menefee tied for 35th on the vault (15.150) and finished 39th on the still rings (13.000).
Air Force produced a pair of individual event specialists on the pommel horse. Freshman James Okamoto scored a 12.750 to finish 31st, while sophomore Chase Nobles tied for 33rd with a score of 12.600.
Senior Garrett Canter concluded his impressive Air Force career with a 29th-place score of 13.500 on the high bar. Junior Dan Klimkowski scored a 13.750 to placed 31st on the still rings, while classmate Matthew Thorne finished 42nd on the parallel bars with a mark of 11.050.
