COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force freshman gymnast Erin Brown was named to the Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete team, the league announced this afternoon (June 30). Brown, a native of Brighton, Mich., posted a 3.56 GPA in biochemistry. She is the fourth member of the women's gymnastics team to earn the MWC Scholar-Athlete Award.
During her first year with the Falcons, Brown became a significant part of the Falcons' rotation, competing on the balance beam in 12 of 13 meets, while participating on the floor exercise in the final seven competitions. Brown posted a career-best 9.675 on the balance beam at Denver, tying for the third-highest score on the team during the season. She earned a season-best score of 9.475 on the floor exercise at the MPSF Championships and a personal-high mark of 9.425 on the uneven bars against the Pioneers.
Brown joins former Falcons Diane Godar (2004), Katie Donnell (2005) and Abbey Rogers (2007, 2008, 2009) to be named to a Mountain West Conference Scholar-Athlete.
The MWC Scholar-Athlete Award is the highest academic honor bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
