USAFA, Colo. - Air Force freshman Jason Fabian was named the co-Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week as he helped lead Air Force to two wins last weekend over Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa.
Fabian scored three goals and had an assist as Air Force jumped from fifth place to third in the AHA standings. The center from Roseau, Minn., scored three goals on five shots and was also a +1. On Friday, he scored an even-strength goal with 2:06 remaining to start the Falcon comeback. His goal tied the game at 3-3. He then had the first assist on the game-winning goal by John Kruse with 1:17 remaining as AFA went on to win the game 5-3. On Saturday, he tied his career high with two goals. His first goal came in the first period to give Air Force a 2-0 lead. His second goal came in the second period, on the power play, to give AFA a 4-2 lead as the Falcons held on for a 6-5 victory. In the two games, he won 17 of the 30 faceoffs he took, the most on the team.
Fabian is the third Air Force freshman to earn the Rookie of the Week award, joining Jason Torf and Tony Thomas. He is the fourth Falcon to earn an AHA weekly honor this season. It is the first league honor of his career.
Air Force (14-11-6 overall and 12-7-6 AHA) is in third place in the league and hosts second-place Robert Morris in a two-game series, Friday-Saturday, Feb. 25-26. The faceoff is at 7:05 p.m. on Friday and at 7:35 p.m. on Saturday.
