WOODLAND, Calif. - Air Force senior team captain Nash Mills was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, the league office announced this afternoon (March 29). Over the March 25-26 weekend, Mills set an Academy record and won two individual USAG national titles, while helping Air Force to its second consecutive USAG national team championship.
It is the second time this season - and the fifth time of his career - that Mills has earned the conference's weekly award.
Mills broke his own Academy record on the parallel bars during the team competition on Friday, March 25, scoring a 15.200 to become the first Falcon to surpass the 15-point mark on that event. He also posted scores that counted toward the team total on the still rings (15.000) and vault (15.200) to help Air Force to its second team title in as many years.
On Saturday, March 26, Mills successfully defended his USAG title on the parallel bars, while winning his first-ever championship on the still rings. Mills scored a 14.600 to win the parallel bars title, while matching his career-best mark of 15.300 on the still rings to claim that title. The two championships brought Mills' career total of USAG All-America accolades to seven.
He was also selected as the recipient of the USAG Outstanding Senior Gymnast award.
Mills and the Falcons return to the Academy on Saturday, April 2, when they host the 2011 MPSF Men's Gymnastics Championships at 5 p.m., in Cadet West Gym. The conference meet will feature the top three teams in the nation (No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 Stanford, No. 3 California), as well as eighth-ranked Air Force and 11th-ranked Nebraska.
