Air Force Earns Team Bid to NCAA National Qualifier

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The ninth-ranked Air Force men's gymnastics team was selected to the 2011 NCAA National Qualifier, with a qualifying average of 344.200, the NCAA men's gymnastics selection committee announced this afternoon (April 5). The invitation marks the first time since 1998 that the Falcons have sent a full squad to the national meet.
The Falcons will open the national competition on Thursday, April 14, in the first of two qualifying sessions at St. John's Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
The 1 p.m. session will feature top-ranked Oklahoma (359.683), No. 4 Illinois (354.600), No. 5 Penn State (351.283), No. 8 Minnesota (345.367), No. 9 Air Force (344.200) and No. 12 Illinois-Chicago (340.800), while the 7 p.m. session will feature second-ranked Stanford (359.042), No. 3 California (354.904), No. 6 Michigan (350.708), No. 7 Ohio State (345.800), No. 10 Nebraska (342.442) and No. 11 Iowa (341.025).
The two sessions of the national qualifier will be held on Thursday, April 14. The top three teams, top three all-around competitors not on an advancing team and the top three individuals from each event that are not on an advancing team or moving on as an all-around competitor, will advance from each qualifying session into the national championships. The team finals will take place on Friday, April 15, while the event finals will be held on Saturday, April 16.
