USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force women's gymnastics team and head coach Doug Day released its 2012 schedule today (Aug. 12). Over the four-month season, the Falcons will host three meets at the Academy's West Gym, including a double-dual meet with the men's squad.
The Falcons will open the season on Saturday, Jan. 14, in Denton, Texas, where they will face Texas Woman's University. Air Force remains on the road for the next four meets, competing at UC-Davis (Friday, Jan. 20), Denver (Saturday, Jan. 28), Seattle Pacific (Saturday, Feb. 3) and Alaska-Anchorage (Feb. 12).
Air Force opens the home slate on Saturday, Feb. 18, when it hosts UC-Davis in the second of a home-and-home series between the two programs. The Falcons return to the road on Saturday, Feb. 25, when they travel to Rutgers.
March begins with a pair of home competitions. The Falcons will host a rematch with Seattle-Pacific on Friday, March 2, that will run in conjunction with the men's meet against Illinois-Chicago. Air Force concludes its home season on Monday, March 5, against Western Michigan and Denver.
The Falcons will also travel to Eastern Michigan (Saturday, March 10) and Arizona (Friday, March 16), before returning to Davis, Calif., for the 2012 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Saturday, March 24. Air Force will look to qualify to the NCAA Regional Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Saturday, April 7, before closing out the season at the USAG Collegiate National Championships on April 13-15 in New Haven, Conn.
"I'm really looking forward to this year's competition season," sixth-year head coach Doug Day said. "We have five new freshmen joining our team that should help us move up in the national rankings. They all bring a wealth of talent to an already solid program."
