Falcons Travel to Alaska-Anchorage for Sunday Meet

The Air Force women's gymnastics team closes out its season-opening five-meet road trip with its longest adventure of the season. The Falcons will travel to Anchorage, Alaska, to face Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe Alaska-Anchorage on Sunday, Feb. 12. The meet, which will be held at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex, is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. (AKST).

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION
Alaska-Anchorage is currently ranked 65th in the GymInfo National Rankings with an average of 187.580. The Seawolves are coming off of a third-place finish (188.050) against Denver and Iowa State last weekend in Colorado. Melissa Doucette currently leads the MPSF on the vault with an average score of 9.720, while ranking second in the all-around (38.131) and third on the floor exercise (9.665). Air Force is 28-18 all-time against the Alaska-Achorage.

AROUND THE CONFERENCE
Five Falcons are ranked among the leaders of the MPSF. Jessica Hanner currently holds the squad's highest ranking, as she is tied for second on the balance beam with an average score of 9.650. Samantha Jones (vault, 9.625), Linnaea Hance (uneven bars, 9.600) and Jessica Wallander (floor exercise, 9.650) all hold fifth-place rankings in their respective individual events, while Jen Larsen and Hance are ranked fifth (37.913) and sixth (37.600) in the all-around.
RECAPPING THE SPU MEET
The Falcons tallied its second-highest team score of the season (188.925) during a loss to conference opponent Seattle Pacific on Feb. 4. Jessica Hanner posted the squad's highest score of the night (9.725), to finish second on the balance beam. Jen Larsen placed second on the uneven bars (9.675), while Jessica Wallander earned the same placement on the vault (9.700).
THE ROAD WARRIORS
Air Force opens the 2012 season with five straight road meets, including trips to Texas, California, Washington and Alaska. During the season, the Falcons will also travel to New Jersey, Michigan, Arizona and Connecticut. Air Force is only at the Academy for three meets this season (Feb. 18, Mar. 2, Mar. 5), while competing at Denver on Jan. 22.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
After five weeks of road meets, the Falcons will finally make their 2012 debut at Cadet West Gym. Air Force will host UC Davis in a MPSF rematch on Saturday, Feb. 18. The meet will be held at 2 p.m. (a change from the original schedule)
