Falcons Finish Third at Oklahoma Tri-Meet

NORMAN, Okla. - The 11th-ranked Air Force men's gymnastics team concluded the regular season with a third-place finish at the Oklahoma Tri-Meet on Saturday, March 17, in Norman. The Falcons scored a 327.950 to finish third behind the top-ranked Sooners (352.400) and No. 9 Nebraska (341.550).
Junior James Okamoto and freshman Gared Chapman posted the Falcons' best finishes of the night, placing fifth on the pommel horse and still rings, respectively. Okamoto scored a 14.050 on the pommel horse, while Chapman collected a 14.550 on the rings.
Okamoto was one of two Falcons to place within the top half of the 18-gymnast field on the pommel horse, as freshman Greg Chaput placed ninth with a mark of 13.500. Sophomore Tyler Huebner joined Chapman in the top half of the rings' standings, as he placed ninth with a 13.950.
Freshman Corbin Palmer was the Falcons' top scorer on both the floor exercise and parallel bars, as he finished eighth on the floor with a career-best mark of 14.500 and 11th on the parallel bars with a 13.500. With additional 11th-place marks, junior Tory Brown and freshman Skyler Awisus rounded out the Falcons' top finishers at Oklahoma. Brown paced Air Force with a 14.300 on the vault, while Awisus tallied a 13.500 on the high bar.
The Falcons are off from competition next weekend, as they prepare for the USAG Collegiate National Championships, which will be held at the Academy on March 30-31.
