West Gym Construction Nearing Completion

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - After nearly a year of construction, the renovation to Cadet West Gym - the 25,000-square foot home of the Air Force men's and women's gymnastics teams - is nearing completion as one of the nation's premiere facilities.

The northern half of the facility features a state-of-the-art training space that includes a two-story structure that eliminated the need of the old secondary, auxiliary gym. The lower level of the training tower features new locker rooms and storage space and the base of several training pits. The upper level includes vaulting runways, spring floor strips, a 16x16 resi-pit, a loose foam pit, a trench/canyon pit and a trampoline.

Bleachers will flank the south and west ends of the facility for competitions, with an additional entrance into the gym built in the southwest corner. The new venue, which also received updating lighting and infrastructure, will also feature a new scoreboard that is slated to be installed by the end of the month.
The men the 2015 season at Cadet West Gym on Saturday, Jan. 17, when they hosts the annual Rocky Mountain Open. The women will host Seattle Pacific one week later (Jan. 24) for their first home meet of the season.
