
Falcons Drop Season-Opener to Utah State

LOGAN, Utah - The Air Force women's gymnastics team opened the 2015 campaign with a 193.975-186.675 loss to Utah State on Friday, Jan. 9, in Logan, Utah. Senior Jessica Wallander paced the Falcons with a first-place finish on the vault, while classmate Lindsay Ebel finished second on the balance beam.
Wallander recorded a score of 9.850 to win the vault, while Ebel tallied a 9.775 - a mark just .025 off of her personal best - to finish second on the beam.
Wallander was one of two Falcons to finish among the top half of the field on the vault, as freshman Jamie Lewis placed sixth with a score of 9.750, en route to a team-leading third-place finish in the all-around (37.150). Wallander also paced Air Force on the uneven bars, as she finished fourth with a 9.575. Classmate Kim McRobbie also placed among the meet's top-six on that event, scoring a 9.500 to tie for fifth.
Sophomore Kara Witgen was the Falcons' top finisher on the floor exercise, scoring a 9.600 to tie for fifth.
The Falcons are off from competition until Saturday, Jan. 24, when they host Seattle Pacific at the Academy's newly-renovated Cadet West Gym.
