"We boxed well in a very difficult environment," first-year head coach Blake Baldi said of competing in the Midshipmen's home ring. "I'm happy with where we are to start the season."
Junior Adam Sumait kicked off the night with a 125-pound victory over Jed Salonga and earned the team's Boxer of the Week award. "Adam was dominant against a strong Navy boxer," Baldi said of the decision. "He executed his game plan well."
Air Force also collected victories from fellow juniors Landon Tomcho and Johnny Wells. Tomcho picked up a victory over Jimmy Lawson in one of two contests in the 139-pound weight class, while Wells defeated Dave Von Savage at 156 pounds.
Senior Joshua Key suffered a 139-pound loss to VJ Sakburn, while junior Pedro Barrientes lost a 147-pound bout to Danny O'Neill and senior Chad Turney dropped a 185-pound contest to Jordan Davis.
Two members of the women's club team also competed against their counterparts from Navy, but Heather Parcasio dropped a decision to Zoe Wang at 125 pounds and Sarenna Ortiz lost a 156-pound decision to Sam Glaeser.
The Falcons open the home portion of their season on Friday, Oct. 9, when they host the first of seven Friday Night Fights in the Cadet Gym's Boxing Room. Action gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
