Kyle Wilson scored 19 points and Tenner Plomb added 18 to lead Army West Point past Air Force, 90-80, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game in Clune Arena.
Army took control of the game mid-way through the first half. The Falcons scored five straight points to take a 20-15 lead with 9:42 remaining before Army responded with an 18-0 run to take a 33-20 lead with 4:38 left in the half. The Falcons missed eight straight field goals and all four free throw attempts in the run. Zach Moer finally broke the run with a basket with 4:21 left in the half. The Black Knights led 43-32 at the half.
The Falcons cut the lead to six, 78-72, with 2:30 remaining by taking advantage of four straight misses at the free throw line by Army. Plomb hit a 3-pointer with 2:14 left to extend the lead back to nine, 81-72. Air Force got four straight points by Trevor Lyons to cut the lead to five points, 81-76, with 1:19 left before Wilson nailed a 3-pointer with 57 seconds left to provide the final blow.
Army hit 44.8 percent from the field, including 12 of 28 from 3-point territory. The Black Knights also out-rebounded Air Force, 41-38, and out-scored the Falcons by 10 at the free throw line, hitting 26 of 38 in the game. Air Force hit 46.8 percent from the field, including six of 10 3-pointers, but hit just 16 of 32 free throws.
Hayden Graham recorded his fourth double-double of the season with a career-high 21 points and a career-best-tying 12 rebounds to lead Air Force. Zach Kocur matched his season high with 15 points while Lyons added 14 points. Dezmond James, who started for the first time in his career, chipped in with 11 points and a career-best four rebounds.
Air Force falls to 6-4 overall while suffering its first home loss of the season (5-1) while Army improves to 8-2.
