CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - After recording the second-highest pommel horse score in the nation this season to shatter the Academy record, Air Force freshman Arinn Wade was named the Collegiate Gymnastics Association's National Gymnast of the Week (USAG Division) on Friday, March 13. It is the first such award for Wade and the first for an Academy gymnast this season.
Wade recorded a program-best 15.600 to win the pommel horse title during the Falcons' victory over Washington on March 7. Wade improved his own mark on that event by over a half-point, en route to recording the second-highest pommel horse score by any gymnast in the nation this season. Wade, who also finished within the top four on the still rings and parallel bars, helped Air Force to a season-best team score of 429.900 and the second-highest pommel horse team score (72.750) in program history.
He shared the weekly award with California's Kevin Wolting, who received the Division I honor. The weekly CGA awards are selected by a panel of active collegiate coaches, CGA Honorary Lifetime Members and coaches from major club programs.
The Falcons, ranked 10th in the national standings, compete at 16th-ranked Arizona State later today.
