CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Air Force senior Josh Ramos was named the Collegiate Gymnastics Association's National Gymnast of the Week (USAG Division), the CGA announced today (March 19). It is the second straight week that an Academy gymnast has earned the national award.
Ramos collected a pair of first-place finishes - and placed within the top three on all five of his events - to lead the Falcons to a 425.650-408.250 victory over 16th-ranked Arizona State on Friday, March 13, in Tempe. The native of Broken Arrow, Okla., matched his career-high of 15.100 to take first on the parallel bars and now holds three of the five 15-plus scores in Academy history on that apparatus. He also won the floor exercise with a score of 14.900, while adding third-place finishes on the pommel horse (13.850), vault (14.500) and high bar (14.000).
The senior shared the CGA's March 19 honor with Penn State's Alexis Torres, who received the Division I award. The weekly awards are selected by a panel of active collegiate coaches, CGA Honorary Lifetime Members and coaches from major club programs.
Ramos and the 10th-ranked Falcons host the 2015 USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships this weekend (March 20-21) at the Academy's Cadet West Gym.
