
Six Falcons Selected to NCAA Regional Meet

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Six members of the Air Force women's gymnastics team were selected to the NCAA Regional Championships, the NCAA office announced this afternoon (March 23). Three all-arounders and three event specialists were invited to compete at the Ames Regional next week.
Senior Kim McRobbie, freshman Jamie Lewis and sophomore Kara Witgen will represent the Academy in the all-around, while Air Force gymnasts will serve as the event specialists on the vault (senior Jessica Wallander), uneven bars (Wallander), balance beam (sophomore Annie Graft) and floor exercise (senior Alexandra Stych).
Five of the six Falcons will be making their first appearance at the NCAA Regional Championships.
McRobbie enters the 2015 all-around with a Regional Qualifying Score of 38.510, while Lewis and Witgen hold RQS marks of 38.105 and 37.815, respectively. Wallander, who competed on three events at the 2013 regional championships and served as the vault alternate last year, currently holds a 9.825 RQS on the vault and a 9.755 mark on the uneven bars. Stych, a regional alternate during the last two seasons, has a RQS of 9.785 on the floor exercise, while Graft holds a 9.720 on the balance beam.
Wallander was also chosen as an alternate on the floor exercise, while junior Shannen Kelly earned the alternate spot on the balance beam.
The six full squads scheduled to compete at the Ames Regional are two top-10 teams in fourth-ranked LSU and ninth-ranked Nebraska, as well as No. 16 Denver, No. 23 Washington, No. 28 Michigan State and No. 33 Iowa State. Individual athletes, including the remaining all-around competitors, event specialists and alternates are from Wisconsin-Whitewater and Wisconsin La Crosse.
Six teams, five all-around competitors who are not on a qualifying team and one specialist per event with a minimum Regional Qualifying Score of 9.400 were named to each of the six regional sites (Ames, Auburn, Berkeley, Columbus, Morgantown, Norman.). The top two teams, the top two all-around competitors not on an advancing team, and any event winners not on an advancing team from each regional meet will earn an automatic berth into the national championship meet, which will be held on April 17-19 in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Ames Regional will take place at 4:00 p.m. (CT), on Saturday, April 4, at ISU's Hilton Coliseum.
