CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Air Force Denis Aurelius was named the Collegiate Gymnastics Association's National Gymnast of the Week (USAG Division), the CGA announced today (March 26). It is the third straight week that an Academy gymnast has earned the national award.
Aurelius captured the still rings title at the USA Gymnastics Collegiate National Championships on Saturday, March 21, after posting a career-best 15.400 - the eighth-highest total in Academy history. That score, which bettered the field by 0.600, gave the junior his second USAG national title in as many years (floor exercise, 2014). The individual title came one day after Aurelius scored a 15.200 to take first on that event during the team finals and help Air Force to its sixth-straight USAG national team title.
The junior shared the CGA's March 26 award with Michigan's Stacey Ervin, who received the Division I award. The weekly awards are selected by a panel of active collegiate coaches, CGA Honorary Lifetime Members and coaches from major club programs.
The Falcons host the 2015 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships on Saturday (March 28) at the Academy's Cadet West Gym.
