
Air Force Drops Two Games at UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Air Force baseball's dropped two Mountain West games at UNLV Saturday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The Falcons lost its continued game from Friday 7-2 and lost 8-7 in 10 inning in the following game.
In a game one, the Falcons (19-22, 10-13 MW) resumed a game that was suspended after seven innings of play with UNLV (18-23, 5-15) leading 6-2 due to lighting issues. The Rebels added one run in the eighth to pull away 7-2.
UNLV had 11 hits in the game. Centerfielder Joey Armstrong led UNLV with three hits, two for doubles, and two runs scored. Starting pitcher Kenny Oakley (3-4) picked up the win, allowing two runs off four hits in six innings pitched.
Air Force had five hits in the game. Third baseman Noah Pierce and Tyler Jones scored AFA's runs. Starting pitcher Griffin Jax (3-7) took the loss, striking out four in seven innings pitched. Freshman Michael Rieker pitched the eighth inning for the Falcons.
Air Force led 2-0 early with three runs in the third inning. UNLV scored five runs in the fifth and runs in the seventh and eighth to pull away.
In game two, the Falcons could not hold a late lead, as the Rebels rallied to the win. UNLV plated the game-winning run on a bases-loaded single by second baseman Payton Squire in the 10th inning.
The Falcons had 10 hits in the game, with four players having two hits. Rightfielder Spencer Draws went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs and two RBIs. Jones went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Centerfielder Adam Groesbeck with 2-for-5 with a double and run scored. Designated hitter Bradley Haslam went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.
Junior Steven Trojan (5-3) took the loss in three innings of relief for the Falcons. Starting pitcher Jacob DeVries pitched six innings, striking out four. Senior Ben Yokley pitched to the Squire in the 10th.
UNLV had 11 hits in the game. Squire went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Zach Hartman (2-1) picked up the win with three scoreless innings in relief. Starting pitcher D.J. Myers pitched five innings, allowing five runs.
The Falcons plated a run in the second to take an early lead. UNLV scored two in the third to go up 2-1. The Falcons scored two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to go up 5-2. The Rebels scored two in the bottom of the fifth to make it a 5-4 game.
Air Force scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take a 7-4 lead. UNLV rallied again, scoring three runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game up. The teams played scoreless eighth and ninth innings to get to the 10th.
