USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's soccer dropped a 2-1 contest to Baylor (4-4-1) Friday night at the Cadet Soccer Stadium. The Falcons fell to 2-5 on the season.
A late goal by Air Force was not enough as Baylor's 2-0 lead held. The Bears got scores in the 48th minute by McKenna Martin and in the 87th by Lauren Piercy.
After a slow start, the Falcons began to mount their late rally. Senior Ally Swift scored in the 88th minute on a header off a pass from junior Kristina O'Sullivan. It was Swift's team-leading third goal of the season.
The late rally came too late unfortunately, as the Falcons ran out of time.
"It was a very fast-paced, physical game," Air Force head coach Larry Friend said. "Baylor is a strong team who is very good in the air. I'm proud of our team for standing their ground and meeting the physical challenges of this game. We started to wear them down towards the end of the second half but it too little too late. Give credit to Baylor coach Paul Jobson for a hard-fought battle. We have to regroup at practice tomorrow and get prepared for CSU Bakersfield Sunday."
After being out-shot 10-3 in the first-half, the Falcons made things close with a 7-5 shot deficit in the second half. After failing to get one corner kick attempt in the first-half, the Falcons evened the second-half corners 2-2.
Air Force had a strong showing in goal from freshman Jennifer Hiddink, who recorded nine saves on the night, including seven in the first-half.
Air Force returns to action Sunday, Sept. 20, hosting CSU Bakersfield.
