Falcons Finish Fourth at Ozone Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Backed by top-10 finishes from junior Kara Witgen and senior Sarah Neumann, the Air Force women's gymnastics team recorded a season-high tally of 188.875 to finish fourth at the Ozone Collegiate Classic this evening (Jan. 16) at the Knoxville Convention Center.
Tying for eighth on the floor exercise with a season-high tally of 9.775, Witgen earned the Falcons' best individual finish of the night. Neumann improved her season-high score on the balance beam to 9.700, as she tied for ninth on that apparatus.
Witgen also led the Falcons on the uneven bars with a 14th-place score of 9.575, while sophomores Julia Sebben and Chelsea Grimison posted matching marks of 9.550 to lead Air Force on the vault (14th, tie).
Sophomore Jamie Lewis, who finished sixth in the all-around with a score of 37.800, joined Witgen among the top-half of the field on the floor exercise, as she tied for 12th with a career-high score of 9.700. Senior Shannen Kelly also picked up a top-12 finish, as she recorded a 9.625 to place 12th on the balance beam.
Iowa State registered the highest team scores on three of the four events to win the Ozone Collegiate Classic with a total of 194.225. Southeast Missouri finished second with a 192.550, while Pittsburgh (third, 190.525) and Air Force (fourth, 188.875) rounded out the team standings.
The Falcons return to action next Sunday (Jan. 24) when they travel to Denton, Texas, for a quadrangular meet at Texas Woman's University.
