Sarah Neumann Wins Balance Beam at TWU Quad

DENTON, Texas – Senior Sarah Neumann took first in the balance beam and the Air Force women's gymnastics team broke the 190-point plateau for the first time this season during a fourth-place finish (190.500) at the Texas Woman's University Quadrangular on Sunday, Jan. 24, in Denton, Texas.
Neumann registered a season-high score of 9.800 to win the beam – the Falcons' first event title of the season on that event. The senior was one of two Falcons to finish within the top half of the 24-competitor field on the beam, as classmate Shannen Kelly tie for 10th with a season-high score of 9.650.
Posting a career-best matching score of 9.825, Kara Witgen was the runner-up on the uneven bars. The junior paced the Falcons to three of the meet's top-eight scores on the event, as freshman Mariana Murphy tied for sixth (career-best 9.725) and junior Darby Germain finished eighth (career-best 9.700).
Witgen shared the team lead on the vault, as she and sophomore Chelsea Grimison tied for 13th with matching marks of 9.550 (season high for Witgen, career high for Grimison). The sophomore also shared the team lead on the floor exercise, as she and classmate Casey Bell tied for 11th with scores of 9.525 (career high for Grimison).
Sophomore Jamie Lewis finished seventh in the all-around (37.125), while Witgen placed eighth with a total of 36.950.
Southeast Missouri won the four-team meet with a score of 191.900, while host TWU finished second with a 191.600. Centenary (third, 190.525) narrowly edged Air Force, which improved its season-high by nearly two points to finish fourth with a final team score of 190.500.
Air Force returns to the Academy on Saturday, Jan. 30, when they host Wisconsin-Oshkosh at 6:00 p.m.
