USAF ACADEMY, Colo. - Air Force women's basketball dropped a 64-46 contest to Navy on Tuesday night at Clune Arena. Kassady Huffman and Cortney Porter led the Falcons with 10 points each.
A cold start had the Falcons trailing 21-7 after the first quarter. The Falcons were forced to play catch-up the rest of the game and could not rally. Navy (4-3) had a 9-1 advantage in three point baskets, including a 25-11 advantage in points off turnovers. Air Force did have a strong night on the boards, out-rebounding Navy 47-43.
The Midshipmen had four players in double-figures scoring, led by guard Sarita Condie's game-high 18 points. Justice Swett added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Laurel Jaunich and Molly Sanders had 10 points each as well.
Huffman scored 10 points, adding seven rebounds and four blocked shots for the Falcons. The freshman now has nine blocks in her last two games.
Porter had her second-straight game in double-figures scoring as well, connecting on four field goals and two free throws. The junior added four rebounds, four steals and four assists.
Freshman Kailin Davis also contributed on the night for Air Force, scoring nine points and grabbing six rebounds. Dee Bennett added six points and 11 rebounds. The junior has 27 boards in her last two games. Freshman Ifeoma Emeka had eight rebounds and sophomore Venessana Itugbu had six boards.
"We lost a lot of their players on defense and they were able to knock down open shots," Air Force head coach Chris Gobrecht said. "We were open several times as well, but just couldn't make the open shot. We needed someone to knock down a shot, but we kept missing too many open looks. But its another part of getting our program maturing."
Air Force returns to action this weekend, Dec. 2-3, hosting the Air Force Classic. After SIUE and Utah Valley play at 4:30 pm on Friday, the Falcons take on Vanderbilt at 7 pm. Saturday's action will feature the consolation game at 1 pm and the championship game at 3:30.
