YPSILANTI, Mich. - Air Force women's basketball dropped a 65-44 contest at Eastern Michigan Wednesday afternoon at the EMU Convocation Center. Playing its final non-conference game before Mountain West play, the Falcons were led by junior Erika Chapman's nine points.
Eastern Michigan (5-7) utilized a pair of double-digit runs to pull away from the Falcons. A 10-0 run in the second quarter and a 14-0 spurt in the third allowed the Eagles to pull away.
The Falcons trailed by just four points midway through the third quarter, but the 14-0 EMU run pushed the score to 49-31 a little over a minute in the quarter.
Eastern Michigan was led by guards Phillis Webb and Sasha Dailey, whom combined for 39 points. Webb scored 20 points and pulled down 17 rebounds. Dialey added 19.
Chapman added four rebounds to her team-high nine points in 19 minutes off the bench. Freshman Kassady Huffman scored eight points to go with team high's of eight rebounds and three blocked shots. Freshman Kailin Davis and Mariah Forde and junior Cortney Porter added six points each.
Senior Sarah Falvey, who grew up just down the road from EMU in Plymouth, Mich., led Air Force with two assists.
The Falcons did a good job of getting to the free-throw line, attempting 23 free throws. Air Force also had 47 rebounds, tying a season-high. Sophomore Venessannah Itugbu had seven boards and Porter and junior Dee Bennett added six each.
"I would like for our team to be able to break from the disease of distraction," Air Force head coach Chris Gobrecht said. "Being such a young team, it's a big challenge for us. We haven't played our best basketball these last two games and I'm hoping the break before conference play allows up to re-focus. Our last two games were performances below what we're capable of."
Air Force returns to action Dec. 29, opening Mountain West play hosting Wyoming. Tip-time, at Clune Arena, is 7 pm MT.
