Falcons Travel to Iowa State for Triangular

The Air Force women's gymnastics team heads to Ames, Iowa, for a triangular meet with Iowa State and the 18th-ranked Minnesota on Friday, Feb. 18. It will be the Falcons' second contest of the season against the Cyclones and the first of three meets with the Golden Gophers.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITION: IOWA STATE
Iowa State, listed just outside of the top-25 with a No. 33 average of 194.625, is coming off of a first-place finish at Centenary's triangular on Feb. 13. The Cyclones tallied a 194.725 to defeat Texas Woman's University (191.550) and the host Ladies (190.275) in Louisiana. Meaghan Siervers paced Iowa State in the meet, winning the vault (9.875) and uneven bars (9.850), while Haylee Young claimed first-place honors on the floor exercise (9.875).
SCOUTING THE COMPETITION: #18 MINNESOTA
Minnesota, ranked 18th in the national standings with a 195.658 average, is coming off of a narrow 196.300-196.100 road victory over No. 14 Nebraska on Feb. 12. The Gophers, who are ranked 12th on the balance beam (48.967) and 16th on the floor exercise (48.992), are led by Lindsay Mable, who is ranked seventh in the nation on the beam with a season average of 9.896. Bailie Holst is also listed among the nation's top 20, as she holds a No. 16 ranking on the uneven bars with a 9.867 average.
YOU LOOK FAMILIAR
Air Force has already seen Iowa State once this year, as the two teams competed in the Ozone Collegiate Classic during the second week of the season. The Cyclones won that meet with a team score of 194.200, while Air Force finished fourth with a 188.850.
WE'LL BE SEEING YOU
Air Force will face Minnesota two more times this season, including a road contest at Denver on March 4 and a home meet on March 6.
LOOKING AROUND THE CONFERENCE
Highlighted by a #9 ranking from Sarah Neumann, the Falcons have four gymnasts ranked among the top 20 of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. Neumann, who is currently listed ninth on the balance beam with a season-average of 9.664, is one of two Falcons to hold top-20 rankings on that event, as Shannen Kelly is listed 15th with a 9.614 average. Kara Witgen and Julia Sebben are both listed in the league standings on the uneven bars, as the pair is ranked 11th (9.550) and 18th (9.481), respectively.
THEY KEEP GETTING BETTER
After starting the season 0-8, the Falcons have roared back, collecting six straight victories and improving their team score by nearly five points. Air Force, which average a 188.767 during the first three meets of the season, has accounted for an average of 190.550 during its four-meet winning streak. The Falcons have also accounted for 15 individual first-place finishes during the last four competitions.
WHAT'S AHEAD FOR THE FALCONS
Air Force returns to the Academy on Friday, Feb. 26, when it hosts Southeast Missouri. That meet, which will run in conjunction with the men's meet against Illinois-Chicago, is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. and serve as the women's annual Pink Meet.
