WOODLAND, Calif. – Following an Academy-record performance of the pommel horse last Saturday, Air Force junior Tim Wang was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday, Feb. 16. It is the second career MPSF honor for the Riverside, Calif., native.
Wang scored a program-best 15.650 to easily win the pommel horse at the All-Academy Championships in Atlanta, Ga., on Feb. 13. That score, which bettered the field by 0.600 points, is the second-highest pommel horse score in the nation this season. Wang also captured first-place honors on the still rings (14.500) to help Air Force to a season-high score of 427.350 and its sixth-straight team title at the annual service academy triangular.
The Air Force junior, who is currently ranked fourth nationally on the pommel horse with a three-score average of 15.200, returns to action on Thursday, Feb. 18, when he represents the Academy at the prestigious Winter Cup Challenge in Las Vegas.
