Air Force With 61-52 Setback at UNLV

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Air Force women's basketball lost to UNLV, 61-52, in a Mountain West contest Wednesday night at Cox Pavilion. Sophomore Sarah Cantu scored a game-high 25 points to lead the Falcons.
After playing to a 25-25 tie at halftime, the Falcons struggled in the third quarter. UNLV (14-11, 7-7) outscored Air Force 24-10 in the third quarter to build a 49-35 lead and the eventual win.
Dakota Gonzalez paced three Rebels in double-figures scoring, with 13 points and eight rebounds.
Cantu reached double-figures in scoring for the third time in her last four. The sophomore hit six 3 point baskets and was 5 of 6 from the free throw line. Her 25 points was a career-high and tied the most by a Falcon in a game this season. Freshman Venessannah Itugbu scored a career-high seven points and had a team-high six rebounds. The freshman added two blocked shots.
Senior Taylor Parker had seven points as well, adding three rebounds. Sophomore Cortney Porter scored six points and tied a career-high with nine assists. It was her second nine-assist game in her last three games.
Air Force trailed 13-10 after the first quarter of play. The Falcons rallied back with a strong second quarter to tie the game up. Air Force out-scored the Rebels 15-12 in the second quarter.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Feb. 20, at New Mexico. Tip time, at Wisepies Arena at the PIT, is 2 pm.
