Falcons Tally Season High in Victory Over Centenary

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Registering a season-high total of 191.875, the Air Force women's gymnastics team claimed a dual-meet victory over Centenary (187.900) this afternoon at the Cadet West Gym. The Falcons, who fell to the Ladies earlier this season by a narrow 0.025 margin, claimed first-place finishes in three of the four events to even the season series and improve to 2-2 at the Academy.
Sophomore Casey Bell registered a career-high score of 9.800 to win the floor exercise, while senior Shannen Kelly posted a season-high mark of 9.725 to finish first on the balance beam. Junior Darby Germain and freshman Brittney Reed tied for top honors on the uneven bars with matching marks of 9.625, with Reed claiming a new career high on that event.
Germain and Reed also placed within the top half of the field on the floor exercise, as they both posted career-best marks to finish fifth (9.625) and sixth (9.600), respectively. Air Force claimed five of the top six scores on that event, as Bell and the duo of Germain and Reed bookended a third-place finish from junior Kara Witgen (9.700) and a fourth-place finish from sophomore Chelsea Grimison (9.675). As a team, the Falcons recorded a season-high total of 48.400 on that event.
Witgen, who won the all-around with a season-high total of 38.150, also placed within the top half of the field on the vault (9.525, sixth tie) and uneven bars (9.425, sixth), while Grimison added fifth-place scores on the vault and balance beam with scores of 9.600.
Senior Sarah Neumann tied for second on the balance beam (9.675), while freshman Mariana Murphy placed third on both the vault (9.625) and uneven bars (9.525). Sophomore Jamie Lewis placed fourth on the uneven bars with a score of 9.500, and Kelly rounded out the Falcons' top-six finishers with a sixth-place score of 9.525 on the vault.
The Falcons return to action next weekend, as they travel to New York for meets at SUNY Cortland (Feb. 12) and Cornell (Feb. 14).
