Falcons Drop Regular-Season Finale to Alaska

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Senior Shannen Kelly earned first-place honors on the balance beam, but the Air Force women's gymnastics team concluded the regular season with a 194.125-191.975 loss to Alaska this afternoon (March 13) in Anchorage.
Kelly posted a career-high 9.850 to win the beam title and lead Air Force to three finishes within the top half of the 12-gymnast field. Sophomore Chelsea Grimison recorded a career-high of 9.775 to finish third, while junior Kara Witgen finished fifth with a tally of 9.725.
Witgen paced the Falcons to multiple top-six finishes on the floor exercise and uneven bars. With a season-best matching score of 9.825, Witgen was the runner-up on the floor exercise and posted a team-leading 9.675 to finish fourth on the uneven bars. Sophomore Jamie Lewis and freshman Mariana Murphy joined Witgen among the top six on the floor (9.725, fourth, tie) and uneven bars (9.600, sixth), respectively.
Murphy was the Falcons' lone top-six finisher on the vault, as she matched her career-high of 9.650 for the third time in four meets to finish third. Grimison added an additional third-place finish to the Falcons' day, as she earned that placement in the all-around with a collegiate debut of 38.075.
The Falcons and Seawolves will face each other for the third time in as many meets next Saturday (March 19), when they both travel to Sacramento, Calif., for the 2016 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.
