Air Force Pair Selected to NCAA Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Two members of the Air Force women's gymnastics team were selected to compete at the NCAA Regional Championships, the national office announced this afternoon (March 21). Junior Kara Witgen and sophomore Jamie Lewis will represent the Academy in the all-around at the Minneapolis Regional next week.
It will be the second straight regional appearance for both Witgen and Lewis, who hold respective Regional Qualifying Scores of 38.425 and 38.185 in the all-around.
In addition, senior Sarah Neumann was chosen as an alternate on the balance beam.
Six teams, four all-around competitors who are not on a qualifying team and two specialists per event (minimum Regional Qualifying Score of 9.400) were named to each of the six regional sites – Ann Arbor, Athens, Iowa City, Minneapolis, Salt Lake and Tuscaloosa. The top two teams and top two all-around competitors not on an advancing team will earn an automatic berth into the national championship meet, as well as any event winners that are not part of an advancing team or qualified in the all-around.
The six teams scheduled to compete at the Minneapolis Regional are top-15 teams from Florida (No. 2), Denver (No. 11) and Minnesota (No. 14), as well as BYU, Missouri and Ohio State. Individual athletes, including the remaining all-around competitors, event specialists and alternates are from Iowa State and Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The Minneapolis Regional will take place at 4:00 p.m. (CT) on Saturday, April 2, at the Sports Pavilion.
