WOODLAND, Calif. – Following two strong meets against a pair of top-20 teams, Air Force junior Kara Witgen was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Gymnast of the Week, the conference office announced today (March 8). It is the second conference award for Witgen, who earned the league's newcomer award in 2014.
Witgen broke the 39-point barrier in the all-around for the first time in her career on Sunday, March 6, during the Falcons' home triangular with 13th-ranked Denver and 19th-ranked Minnesota. Backed by season-best scores on the balance beam (9.725) and floor exercise (9.825), she finished fifth in the all-around with a score of 39.050. Witgen was the Falcons' top finisher on the floor exercise and uneven bars (9.800), as she finished 10th on both events, and helped Air Force to a season-high team score of 193.825 – the seventh-highest team total in the last decade.
During the triangular between the three schools in Denver on Friday, March 4, Witgen notched a (then) season-high score of 9.775 on the floor exercise to lead Air Force on that event.
The Falcons close out the regular season this weekend, when they travel to Anchorage for dual meets against MPSF foe Alaska on Friday, March 11, and Sunday, March 13.
