
Air Force announces 2016-17 hockey schedule

U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. - The Air Force hockey team opens the 2016-17 season with an exhibition game on Monday, Oct. 3, against Mount Royal University (Calgary, Alberta) at the Cadet Ice Arena. Air Force will play 16 home games, including the exhibition game. In its 11th season in the Atlantic Hockey Conference, Air Force will play 28 conference games.
The Falcons open the regular season with the annual IceBreaker Tournament, hosted by the University of Denver at Magness Arena. The Falcons will face Boston College, an NCAA Frozen Four participant last season, on Friday, Oct. 7 at 4:35 pm MT. Air Force will then play either Denver, also an NCAA Frozen Four participant, or Ohio State on Saturday, Oct. 8. The next week, Oct. 14-16, the Falcons will travel to Tempe, Ariz., to face the Arizona State Sun Devils in their second season at the Division I level. The second game of the series, Oct. 16, will be televised by the PAC-12 Network.
Air Force's first conference home series will be Oct. 21-22 when Bentley University visits the Cadet Ice Arena. The Falcons will continue their local rivalries with Denver and Colorado College on Thanksgiving weekend. The Falcons will host Denver on Nov. 25 and then play at Colorado College on Nov. 26.
Air Force is coming off of a 20-12-5 overall record in 2015-16. The Falcons tied for second in the Atlantic Hockey Conference with a 16-7-5 record. Air Force was the No. 2 seed in the AHC playoffs and swept a quarterfinal series from Canisius at the Cadet Ice Arena.
