
Falcons Rally Over San Francisco on the Road

San Francisco, Calif. - Austin Dewing's second goal of the match in the 88th minute lifted Air Force to their second road win of the weekend against the San Francisco Dons, Sunday, at Negoesco Stadium, San Francisco, Calif. The Falcons are flying high on a four-game winning streak, improving to 5-2 on the season. The Dons drop to 2-5.
The Falcons would strike first with Austin Dewing's unassisted goal in the seventh minute. The sophomore midfielder dribbled into the box from right wing and found an opening for a shot into the far corner from eight yards out.
The Dons returned a goal of their own from Leon Schwarzer in the 24th minute. Continuing the battle, Air Force was transitioning to the offense when Luis Martinez sent a long ball down the field to sophomore midfielder Klint Parker who then dribbled in and shot a goal from 15 yards out. The goal marked Parker's second goal of the weekend and fourth of the season.
The Falcons continued the pressure into the second period as senior defender Tucker Axhoj received a low cross in the box and sent the ball into the goal from six yards straight out. Parker and Jaric Marton were credited with the assist.
The Dons rallied back late in the second period, logging two goals in eight minutes to knot the match at three in the final ten minutes of regulation.
With time winding down the Falcons pushed the pace of the attack. Bone found Dewing on the give and go opportunity which Dewing followed up with a shot into right corner to lift the Falcons, 4-3, in the 88th minute. The goal marked Dewing's second of the season; he also leads the team in assists.
The Dons were unable to respond in the remaining minute as Air Force took their second win of the weekend and fourth straight win on the season.
"The name of the game for this week was scoring goals and we did it," exclaimed head coach Doug Hill. "We played a terrific team with a lot of foreign talent but we found a way to break them down and score some tremendous goals this weekend."
Junior goalkeeper John Wendt faced a barrage of shots, making 11 saves during his 90 minutes in goal for Air Force.
"We had to give every ounce of our defense to shut them down," continued Hill. "It was a terrific team and defensive effort and I'm proud of the boys."
Next weekend the Falcons will split a pair of matches at home and on the road. Air Force travels to Omaha, Neb., to take on Omaha, Friday, Sept. 23, at 7 p.m. CT. On Sunday, Sept. 25, the Falcons will host the Gonzaga Bulldogs in their third home match at Cadet Soccer Stadium, at 1 p.m.
