
Falcons Defeat Centenary on the Road

SHREVEPORT, La. – Backed by a share of three event titles, the Air Force women's gymnastics team posted a season-high score of 192.000 to defeat Centenary (190.650) on Sunday, Jan. 29, in Shreveport. The Falcons' first road win of the year was highlighted by season-best event scores on the uneven bars (48.050), balance beam (48.050) and floor exercise (48.525).
Senior Kara Witgen and sophomore Analise Howard led the Falcons with a share of two event titles. Witgen tallied a 9.750 to win the vault outright, while Howard nabbed a season-high total of 9.800 to share the event title on the uneven bars. The pair also joined sophomore Riley Hill in a three-way tie for first on the balance beam behind matching scores of 9.775 (season-high for Witgen, career-high for Howard, debut for Hill).
Witgen, who scored a 38.450 in her first all-around of the season to finish first among the four all-event competitors, also placed among the top half of the field on the floor exercise (9.725), while Hill added a top-six finish on the vault (9.450).
Freshman Anna Salamone, sophomore Brittney Reed and junior Jamie Lewis all accounted for multiple top-six event finishes on the day. Salamone tied for second on the vault (9.700), while she and Reed shared fourth on the uneven bars (9.700, career highs for both). Reed added a career-high, sixth-place score of 9.625 on the balance beam, while Lewis earned that same placement on the vault (9.425) and uneven bars (season-high 9.650).
Junior Casey Bell rounded out the Falcons' list of event leaders, as she finished third on the floor exercise with a tally of 9.750, and sophomore Mariana Murphy, who tallied a 37.000 to take third in the all-around, finished fifth on that event with a career-high score of 9.700.
The Falcons remain on the road next weekend, when they travel to Washington for a conference contest with Seattle Pacific on Saturday (Feb. 4) night.
