Rita Koenigbauer Named MPSF Freshman of the Week

WOODLAND, Calif. – Following a strong collegiate debut last weekend, Air Force gymnast Rita Koenigbauer was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Freshman of the Week this afternoon (Feb. 7). Koenigbauer is the second Air Force gymnast to earn the league's Freshman of the Week award this season.
The native of Ira Township, Mich., kicked off her collegiate career with an impressive 9.775 on the balance beam during the Falcons' conference road victory over Seattle Pacific on Saturday, Feb. 4. Koenigbauer, who matched the Falcons' third-highest score of the season on the beam, finished fourth in the meet and helped Air Force account for five of the top-seven scores on that event. She also helped Air Force record season-high totals on the beam (48.925) and overall (192.675), as well as a road victory over conference foe, Seattle Pacific (190.550).
Air Force returns to the Academy this weekend (Feb. 11), when it hosts Seattle Pacific and UC Davis in a conference triangular meet at Cadet West Gym. Action is slated to begin at 6:00 p.m. (MT).
