
Air Force Falls to MPSF Leader, UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. – The Air Force women's gymnastics team closed out the regular season with a 195.775-193.350 loss to league-leading UC Davis on Friday, March 10. The Falcons, who finished the year with a 2-4 ledger against their counterparts from the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, collected three top-three finishes and registered a season-high score of 48.650 on the uneven bars.
Sophomore Riley Hill, freshman Anna Salamone and senior Kara Witgen posted the team's best finishes of the night, as they each placed third in their respective event. Hill matched her career-best of 9.750 to finish in a three-way tie for third on the vault, while Salamone posted a new personal-best score of 9.800 to share a three-way finish for third on the uneven bars. Witgen, who compiled a 38.475 in the all-around, used a 9.775 performance to tie for third on the floor exercise.
The trio led Air Force to eight top-six finishes. Junior Casey Bell tied for fifth on the floor exercise with a score of 9.750, while Witgen and junior Jamie Lewis tied for sixth on the vault with a 9.725. Senior Darby Germain and sophomore Mariana Murphy also accounted for a sixth-place tie, as the pair posted matching marks of 9.750 on the uneven bars (career-best for German, season-best for Murphy).
Sophomore Brittney Reed rounded out the Falcons' list of event leaders, as she took seventh on the balance beam with a score of 9.725.
With the regular season complete, the Falcons turn their attention to the championship portion of the 2017 campaign. Air Force returns to California next Saturday (March 18) for the 2017 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in San Jose.
